From February 26 to 28, 2026, the Bibliothèque Ludothèque Liziba ya Mayele organized the second edition of its Reading Festival under the inspiring theme: “Let’s Build Adults Who Think.”

This major cultural event brought together more than 20 schools and nearly 1,500 students, offering them a true immersion into the world of books and reading.

Encouraging Reading from an Early Age

Over the course of three days, children participated in a variety of educational and fun activities designed to foster a love of reading and collaborative learning, including:

  • Individual reading
  • Group reading sessions
  • Memory games (Scrabble, puzzles)
  • Teamwork activities

These moments allowed students to learn how to cooperate, value each other’s strengths, and discover that reading can also be a space for sharing and creativity.

Strong Institutional and Educational Support

The festival received steadfast support from municipal councilors of the Mont-Ngafula district, demonstrating the importance placed on education and the promotion of reading among young people.

Teachers and cultural leaders from participating schools unanimously praised the initiative and advocated for the continuation of such educational activities, which are essential to children’s intellectual development.

This edition was made possible with the support of partners such as Africell, Naviprojects, and Geste Qui Compte.

Environmental Awareness

The organization Geste Qui Compte led a strong awareness campaign on waste management, responsible sorting, and environmental protection.

The book Les Déchets (“Waste”) was also offered to children following the various competitions held during the festival.

Discovering the Book Production Chain

For its part, Naviprojects presented its publications and awarded books to competition winners, including À la rencontre du bonobo and Les Déchets.

According to its representative, Jessica Modua, the event helped children understand the difference between a publishing house, a bookstore, and a library, while also discovering the different stages of the book production chain.

A Strong Conviction: Reading Is Learned

For Veritas Mobembo, head of the Bibliothèque Ludothèque Liziba ya Mayele:

“It is important to introduce children to reading, because this habit is not innate — it is acquired.”

The Reading Festival thus reaffirms its ambition: to nurture a generation of young readers who are thoughtful, critical, and aware — capable of becoming the reflective adults of tomorrow.
