The 9th edition of the Kinshasa Literary Season took place from September 18 to 20, 2025, at the Wallonia-Brussels Center. Three vibrant days were dedicated to books and culture, under the theme: “Voices of Women, Echoes of Resilience: When Literature Builds Peace.”
The official opening was led by the Minister of Culture and Arts, Yolande Elebe. In his opening remarks, the Director General of the Wallonia-Brussels Center, David Thonon, reminded the audience of the power of literature:
“Without books, there is no memory; without literature, there is no freedom. Wherever women take up the pen, they uplift society as a whole.”
This year’s guest of honor was Belgian author Fabienne Zutterman, whose presence enriched the exchanges and highlighted the importance of women’s voices in building resilient societies.
The program included debates, poetry performances, book launches, workshops, book sales, and signing sessions, bringing together writers, publishers, readers, and book lovers in a lively and engaging atmosphere.
Naviprojects at the heart of the event
Naviprojects was proud to take part in this major cultural gathering by presenting its children’s books: À la rencontre de l’Okapi (Meeting the Okapi), À la rencontre du Bonobo (Meeting the Bonobo), and Meeting the Mountain Gorilla. Our publications delighted parents, educators, and children eager to discover stories that combine knowledge and wonder.
Closing and awards
The closing ceremony, held on September 20, was marked by the announcement of the winners of the Zamenga Literary Prize, as well as the selection of the slam poet who will represent the city of Kinshasa at the National Congo Slam Festival.
Once again, this 9th edition confirmed that Kinshasa remains a city where literature breathes, inspires dialogue, and builds peace.
