Kids are receiving one copy as a gift.

Around twenty children received free copies of the children’s book “Meeting the Bonobo” on Saturday, February 15, 2025 during the commemoration of the World Bonobo Day at the Liziba ya Mayele library and play center in Kinshasa.

Christian Gombo, poetry session

The books were offered thanks to a sponsor who wanted to support our efforts in introducing children to reading. This day was themed around empathy. The children were introduced to poetry by cultural animator Christian Gombo, who captivated their attention.

In addition to the poetry workshop, the children also played word search games, crossword puzzles, and practiced reading aloud.

For the children, it was a great pleasure to participate in the poetry workshop, and especially to learn more about bonobos.

Several of them didn’t know that bonobos are endemic to the Democratic Republic of Congo. Some had vaguely heard of them but hadn’t really shown interest. Therefore, this event was an opportunity for them to acquire new knowledge about this species.

The goal of the workshop was to get the children interested in bonobos and teach them how to contribute, in one way or another, to their protection.

The children also enjoyed natural natural juices (hibiscus and passion fruit) offered by Jambo Jus, a Congolese agro-food company that produces natural juice locally. It is worth noting that these juices contain no additives and are kept fresh.

Virtual reading for the children of the Congolese Integration Network in Seattle, Washington.

A dozen children from the Congolese Integration Network in Seattle, Washington, attended a virtual reading of the book “Meeting the Bonobo” on February 28.

The children, mostly girls, were very interested in learning about the bonobo, one of the prides of the Democratic Republic of Congo. They had never heard of bonobos before, so they had many questions to ask about bonobos and the wildlife of their country of origin.

A session that was initially planned for an hour ended up lasting longer than expected. In a friendly atmosphere, the children wanted to learn more. They regretted that the book only had 20 pages.

The children made a resolution to take more interest in their country’s fauna and what it has to offer.
